Community Events
Community Day
Duffy’s Hope Incorporated sponsors a Community Day in Wilmington’s East Side, providing complimentary food and a day of fun-filled activities for families. Through a partnership with Wilmington’s Department of Parks & Recreation and 3rd District Councilwoman, Stephanie T. Bolden, Duffy’s Hope, Inc. has provided complimentary school supplies to all participants.
HIV/AIDS Forum
Every December, in support of AIDS Delaware's ongoing campaigns to educate communities about HIV/AIDS, Duffy's Hope co-sponsors an HIV/AIDS Forum targeting adolescents in middle and high school with their Abstinence and The H.O.P.E. Mentoring Program.
The goals of the Annual Youth HIV / AIDS Forum include increasing awareness of HIV / AIDS, encouraging safer behaviors, and having youth seek HIV counseling and testing early. With more than half of all new HIV infections occurring in people between the ages of 13 and 24, giving youth information and prevention tools is imperative. The Youth HIV / AIDS Forum provides the collaborating agencies with an opportunity to educate young people. Pre and Post test knowledge surveys are administered at the Forum. Follow – up contacts are made and youth are connected with The H.O.P.E. Mentoring Program and AIDS Delaware’s Project Pact.
Celebrity Basketball Game
To raise awareness, Duffy’s Hope works with AIDS Delaware and other community organizations to raise awareness and program funding through the Annual Celebrity Basketball Game on World AIDS Day each December. The game is held in conjunction with the HIV/AIDS Forum. After receiving HIV/AIDS education, attendees are able to see some of their favorite celebrities step on to the basketball court to raise awareness for HIV/AIDS.
Now in its fourth year, Wilmington’s youth eagerly anticipate this summer tradition, which celebrates the start of a new school year each August. Well known television, movie and music stars put on a uniform and play to raise funds for Duffy’s Hope, and also lend their time for personal appearances and lots of face-time with the crowd!
